No One Lives is the type of movie that starts as many others and suddenly becomes something unexpected. It is difficult to tell what happens without spoiling; but as in others Ryûhei Kitamura movies, there is no Good vs Evil but Evil vs Evil. "No One Lives" is a cheap horror prank that's ultimately not clever or accomplished enough to sustain its eccentricities, and they are very bloody eccentricities indeed. The percentage of Approved Tomatometer Critics who have given this movie a positive review.
One carjacking and a piss-poor use of handcuffs later, this criminal crew has been marked for gruesome death via everything from crossbow to wood chipper. It stars Luke Evans and Adelaide Clemens. No One Lives is a movie where people actually say lines like "By your lead," and "I'm your path to living, and you're playing with dynamite." Even for a movie based entirely on gore, Kitamura beings nothing special to the table except the proof that he had access to lots of fake blood.

A ruthless criminal gang takes a young couple hostage and goes to ground in an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. The movie even has genre fave (and "Hostel" director) Eli Roth co-starring as an American tourist called "Gringo" who wants to see the Chilean hot spots. He does, all right, when an earthquake rattles the countryside, pushing Gringo, two friends and some feisty girls underground. "No One Lives" reimagines Speck as an uncatchable genius, since there's no other genius at work in this movie. Director Ryuhei Kitamura ("The Midnight Meat Train") and screenwriter David Cohen, in their dogged avoidance of all innovation, create a psychopath (Luke Evans).
